Rupert Idaho Fence Pros is a fence company serving Rupert and the Mini-Cassia area, and chain link fence installation is one of the services we build most. This page covers what the work involves here specifically — the ground, the climate, the code, and what it costs — rather than what it involves in general.

What we do on the first visit

The first visit is a measure, not a sales call. We walk the fence line with you, check the grade and how the ground drains, and probe for the hardpan — the USDA soil series named after this county is defined by a silica-cemented duripan sitting 20 to 40 inches down, and whether your posts have to go through it changes the job. We confirm where the property line actually runs, count the gates, and note whether equipment can reach the line. Then you get a written per-foot price with removal and gates as separate lines.

If we think repair is the better spend than replacement, or a different material suits your situation better, we say so on that visit — including when it means the smaller job for us.

What's included

  • On-site measure and a written per-foot price before any work starts
  • 811 Digline utility locate filed and confirmed before we dig
  • Post holes augered to depth, with a rock auger or breaker where the duripan sits shallow
  • Schedule 40 pipe or heavy SS-grade posts sized to the height and gauge
  • 9-gauge or 11-gauge fabric, galvanized after weave or vinyl-coated as specified
  • Top rail, tension bars, and brace bands at every terminal post
  • Fabric tensioned properly so it does not belly in the first season
  • Old fence and concrete footings hauled away, site raked clean

What this costs in Rupert

Chain Link Fence Installation runs $10–$25 per linear foot installed in this area. Published southern Idaho installed ranges for residential 4–6 ft galvanized fabric; commercial gauges and heights quote separately. The things that move a job up its range are gate count, how much old fence has to come out, whether we can get equipment to the line, slope, and how shallow the rock is. If you want a number before you call, the fence cost calculator will get you close.

When it needs doing

  • Fabric bellying or sagging between posts
  • Rust bleeding at the bottom selvage
  • Terminal posts pulling in toward the run
  • Gate frames racked out of square

Questions

Chain Link Fence Installation questions

What is the difference between 9-gauge and 11-gauge?

Gauge is wire thickness, and lower numbers are thicker. 11-gauge is the residential standard and is fine for a back yard or a dog run. 9-gauge is noticeably heavier and is what belongs on livestock ground, plant perimeters, and anywhere equipment or animals will lean on it. The price difference is small next to the cost of re-stretching a fence that stretched.

Galvanized or vinyl-coated?

Galvanized is the workhorse and the cheaper option. Vinyl-coated adds a polymer jacket over the wire — it looks better against a house, it is quieter, and in this area it earns its keep on runs near irrigation where the fence line stays damp through the season. Black coating also visually disappears at a distance, which people like on a back boundary.

Does chain link work for livestock?

For corrals, dog runs, and small stock it works well in 9-gauge with proper bracing. For cattle on acreage it is usually the wrong tool economically — field wire or barbed wire under Idaho Code 35-102 covers long runs for a fraction of the cost. We will tell you which one your situation actually calls for.

Can chain link be made more private?

Yes, with slats woven through the fabric or with a windscreen. Both help, and both add wind load — which on an open plain like this one means the posts and footings have to be specified for the loaded condition, not the bare-fabric condition. Adding slats to an existing fence that was not built for them is how fences come down in a spring blow.

Do you charge for an estimate?

No. Estimates are free across Rupert and the Mini-Cassia area, including the drive. We walk the line with you, check how deep the rock sits on your lot, and hand you a written per-foot price with removal and gates broken out as their own lines.
